The Midpoint Cafe on Historic Route is the half way point along the trip from Chicago to LA. We had a banana cream pie here and it was great.

Easter Island (Rapa Nui: Rapa Nui, Spanish: Isla de Pascua) is a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeastern most point of the Polynesian triangle. A special territory of Chile annexed in 1888, Easter Island is widely famous for its 887 extant monumental statues, called moai, created by the early Rapanui people. It is a World Heritage Site (as determined by UNESCO) with much of the island protected within the Rapa Nui National Park. In recent times the island has served as a cautionary tale about the cultural and environmental dangers of overexploitation. Ethnographers and archaeologists now argue that the introduction of diseases carried by European colonizers and the slave raiding that devastated the population in the 1800s had a much greater social than environmental impact.

In January 2008 I went to India to attend my friend Raghav’s traditional Indian wedding. I then joined Intrepid Travels “Slowly down the Ganges” tour which took me to all the major sites of Northern India and Rajasthan.

Some of the places I visited on the tour included Jama Masjid Mosque, A Sikh Temple, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh and the Red fort in Delhi. Mizapur before boarding our boats and sailing three days down the river Ganges camping on its banks at night.

We spent a further three days in in the holy city of Varanasi watching all the religious ceremonies on the banks before getting an overnight train to Agra were we saw the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort as well as a carpet factory.

In Jaipur we visited the observatory, Wind Palace and City Palace as well as the Amber Fort and Water Palace and a charity organisation called Ladli that looks after homeless children.

We then took a bus and jeep ride to get to Roopangarh Fort were we lived like Maharajas for a night. We then went to Pushkar were we went on a two day camel safari into the desert as well as getting blessed at the holy lake.
